Join Me for an Evening of Comics at Eslite Songyan!

This Thursday, July 9, I’ll be joining readers at Eslite Songyan in Taipei for a special evening of comics and storytelling.

I recently read 【Graphic Novel Builder】by British comic artist Edward Ross, and I was genuinely excited to discover how closely many of the ideas in the book resonate with the storytelling approach I’ve been sharing with my own comic students over the years.

Thanks to And Books for the invitation, I’ll be giving a talk titled:

🎨 Telling Stories Through Comics: Learning from British and Taiwanese Comics

Together, we’ll explore【Graphic Novel Builder】while discussing how comics become stories—not simply through drawing skills, but through characters, emotions, pacing, and visual storytelling. I’ll also share some of the creative methods and experiences that have shaped our comic-making practice in recent years.

Whether you’ve always dreamed of creating comics, or you’re simply curious about visual storytelling, you’re warmly welcome to join us!

Thanks to British comic artist Edward Ross’s new book, we enjoyed a wonderful evening of international comics education.

If you want to become a comic artist—or enter any industry—you need to understand how it actually works.

Inspiration is only the beginning; it is the process and principles that support long-term growth and help you build a sustainable career.

Respect every professional involved in the process of making comics. Writers, storyboard artists, comic artists, assistants, editors, art editors, marketing teams and sales teams all play an important role.

They connect every stage of the process and bring professional principles into practice. Only through their combined efforts can a comic reach its full potential and be seen by as many people as possible.

On the long journey of creation, besides learning the right processes and principles, taking care of your physical and mental health is also one of the most important tasks for a professional creator.

Your existence is itself a work of the Creator, and the most important work you will ever create is yourself. Take good care of yourself, so that you can continue creating for many years to come.

Besides Edward Ross, the author of this book, I would also like to thank my professional mentor, Mr PONJEA. You showed me the importance of a disciplined routine, high productivity, good quality, and a strong commitment to originality. Through your example, you made me see that anything is possible.
